Summer Hair Care: What You Need To Know.

Caring for your hair a little differently during the summer months is super important because the sun, heat, humidity, and increased outdoor activities can take a toll on your hair.

Here are some tips to help you keep your hair healthy and protected all summer long:

  1. Hydration: Drink plenty of water to keep your body and hair hydrated from the inside out.

  2. Sun protection: The sun's UV rays can damage your hair, so it's important to protect it by wearing a wide brimmed hat. Using hair products that contain UV filters for added protection before sun exposure is also highly recommended.

  3. Moisturize: Sun exposure and heat can dry out your hair, so it's essential to moisturize regularly. Use a deep conditioner or hair mask regularly to replenish moisture and nourish your hair. Leave-in conditioners can also provide ongoing hydration.

  4. Avoid excessive heat styling: Minimize the use of hot styling tools like flat irons, curling irons, and blow dryers. The combination of heat from styling tools and the summer heat can cause extra damage to your hair. Embrace natural hairstyles or opt for heat-free styling methods when possible.

  5. Swim with care: Chlorine and saltwater can be harsh on your hair. Before swimming, wet your hair with fresh water to reduce its ability to absorb chemicals or salt. Consider wearing a swimming cap or applying a leave-in conditioner or hair oil to create a protective barrier. After swimming, rinse your hair thoroughly with fresh water and use a clarifying shampoo to remove any residue.

  6. Avoid Avobenzone: Avobenzone is an active ingredient in most sun blocks/sun screens that will turn your blonde hair an orange-pink hue. Opt for mineral based sunscreens so air blonde says fresh.

  7. Minimize hair washing: Over-washing your hair can strip away its natural oils, leading to dryness and frizz. Try to reduce the frequency of hair washing by using dry shampoo or simply rinsing with water and conditioning the ends if necessary.

  8. Protect from frizz: Humidity can cause frizz, so use anti-frizz products, such as serums or leave-in conditioners, to help control it. Additionally, consider using a microfiber towel or an old t-shirt to gently squeeze excess water from your hair instead of rubbing it vigorously with a towel.

  9. Regular trims: Schedule regular trims every 6-8 weeks to prevent split ends and maintain the health of your hair.

  10. Gentle handling: Be gentle when brushing or combing your hair, especially when it's wet, as wet hair is more susceptible to damage. Use a wide-toothed comb or a brush with soft bristles to avoid unnecessary breakage.

Remember that everyone's hair is unique, so it's important to adjust these tips based on your hair type, texture, and specific needs. Pay attention to how your hair responds and experiment with different products and techniques to find the best routine for you!
